Professor Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Bahammam has been awarded the Arab Physician Award for Excellence in Scientific Research and Innovation for 2025, presented by the Council of Arab Health Ministers — a recognition that highlights decades of dedication, innovation, and impact.
Dr. Bahammam, a professor of pulmonary and sleep medicine at the College of Medicine at King Saud University, is widely regarded as one of the pioneers who helped establish sleep medicine in the Arab world

His work has not only advanced scientific understanding but has also directly improved patient care and awareness around sleep-related disorders across the region.
One of his most significant milestones came in 2002, when he founded the Kingdom’s first specialized sleep medicine research center. At a time when the field was still emerging globally, this initiative placed Saudi Arabia at the forefront of sleep health research in the Middle East.
Over 400 research papers published

Over the course of his career, Dr. Bahammam has published more than 400 research papers in international journals and authored 10 medical books, contributing valuable knowledge to both academic and clinical communities.
His research has helped shape modern approaches to diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, while also training and inspiring a new generation of physicians and researchers.
