Saudi Experienced A Minor 4.0 Earthquake Near Jubail This Week

In the early hours of Friday morning, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded in the Arabian Gulf, about 55 kilometers east of the city of Jubail in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province

The Saudi Geological Survey confirmed the tremor, which was picked up by the Kingdom’s National Seismic Monitoring Network.

While the word “earthquake” may sound alarming, officials assure the public that the quake was minor and posed no threat to land or life in Saudi Arabia

The Geological Survey emphasized that the tremor resulted from natural stress on old fault lines in the Gulf region — specifically due to the movement of the Arabian tectonic plate and its ongoing collision with the Eurasian plate.

“Everything is under control. Saudi territory was not affected, and the situation remains completely safe,” the Geological Survey spokesperson said, adding that such low-level seismic activity is not uncommon in the region.

While most residents likely slept through the shake, the event is a reminder of the invisible forces at play beneath the Earth’s surface — and the importance of continued monitoring.

Thanks to advanced seismic technology and the vigilance of Saudi Arabia’s geological authorities, even minor quakes are tracked and reported with precision.

So, if you felt a tiny rumble last night in the Eastern Province — now you know why!
