Saudi Extends Grace Period For Temporary Hajj And Umrah Work Visas

The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced updates to temporary work visa rules for Hajj and Umrah services on Tuesday, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The changes aim to give businesses more flexibility by aligning visa requirements with labor market needs, making the work environment more appealing.

Key updates include renaming the seasonal work visa to “temporary work visa for Hajj and Umrah services” and extending the grace period from Shaban 15 to the end of Muharram (around Feb. 14 to July 25)

The new rules will also expand temporary visa eligibility for businesses operating during the Umrah season, streamline visa processes, and improve governance by setting clear timelines for visa procedures.

Additionally, employers must now provide a signed contract and medical insurance for workers, and penalties will be introduced to prevent misuse of these visas

Businesses can extend visas by 90 days without requiring additional approval. These changes will take effect 180 days after approval, giving businesses time to adjust before the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
