If you’re planning a road trip across Saudi Arabia this year, get ready to spot more than just rest stops and camels!
A cool new initiative is transforming everyday drives into cultural adventures, thanks to “Wrth Saudi” — a collaboration between the Roads General Authority and the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts.
Launched as part of 2025’s “Year of Handicrafts,” the program is rolling out culturally rich signage along major highways that spotlight the Kingdom’s traditional arts!
Think intricately carved Najdi doors, ancient mud construction techniques, or the timeless craft of bisht making — all now highlighted on your drive!
The first routes getting this cultural glow-up include the Riyadh–Dammam Highway, the Makkah–Madinah Highway, and the Riyadh–Qassim Expressway. And don’t worry — more highways across the country will join in during the next phases.
Saudi Arabia, home to one of the most connected road networks in the world, is now using that infrastructure to connect locals and travelers alike with its rich heritage.
So next time you hit the road, keep your eyes peeled — the journey just became just as exciting as the destination!
