Saudi Mourns The Loss OF Dr. Abdullah Naseef: A True Scholar And Former MWL Chief

Saudi is currently mourning the loss of a very distinguished and beloved scholar in the Kingdom.

Abdullah Omar Naseef, former secretary-general of the Muslim World League and deputy chairman of the Saudi Shoura Council, passed away at the age of 86

His funeral prayer was held at Al-Juffali Mosque in Jeddah, followed by burial at Al-Asad Cemetery, as friends, colleagues, and the public paid their respects.

Born in Jeddah in 1939, Naseef earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from King Saud University and later became a fellow of the Geological Societies of London and America. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to education, humanitarian work, and fostering dialogue among nations and religions.

He held key positions locally and internationally, including president of King Abdulaziz University, chairman of the International Islamic Relief Organization, and president of the World Muslim Congress

He also co-founded institutions such as Dar Al-Islam in New Mexico, the Islamic College in Chicago, and the Islamic Academy in Cambridge, and contributed to universities and cultural centers across the globe. Naseef was also deeply involved in the Scouting movement, serving on the World Scout Committee and leading the International Union of Muslim Scouts. His work earned him the King Faisal Prize for Service to Islam in 1991, recognizing his contributions to Islamic education and international cooperation.

Throughout his life, Abdullah Omar Naseef remained a symbol of wisdom, balance, and compassion, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge, leadership, and service that will be remembered for generations.
