Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad bin Abdulaziz, the governor of Hail, led the opening ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the Kingdom’s food and agriculture sectors.
This ambitious target not only aims to reduce Saudi Arabia’s reliance on salmon imports, currently standing at 23,000 tons per year, but also positions the Kingdom as a key player in regional aquaculture.
Including recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and aquaponics units, which seamlessly integrate fish farming with vegetable production. These advanced systems ensure efficient resource use, reduce environmental impact, and promote year-round production.
Officials also highlighted the project’s potential to create jobs, foster research, and serve as a regional model for sustainable aquaculture practices.
The Excellence Center for Salmon Production stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s dedication to building a resilient and innovative food sector. With this milestone, the Kingdom is not only addressing local demand but also paving the way for a more sustainable and self-sufficient future.
