These efforts include circular digital economy initiatives and e-waste reduction regulations, showcasing 13 success stories from government and private sector entities.

At the COP 28 conference, the ITU and over 40 partners, including governments, companies, and UN agencies, launched the ‘Green Digital Action’ initiative. This aims to enhance digital sustainability, with Saudi Arabia leading the Digital Economy Track. The track emphasizes government-industry collaboration to improve e-waste management.

Saudi authorities have introduced tools to develop digital sustainability strategies with the Digital Cooperation Organization. These tools provide a framework for digital sustainability, from raising awareness to implementing best practices and coordinating with stakeholders.

The report also revealed that $649 billion was spent on supporting environmental, social, and corporate governance practices in 2021, a significant increase from 2019. These companies rank highly on the MSCI ESG Index, reflecting their commitment to sustainability. Saudi Arabia’s ongoing investments in digital infrastructure position it as a leader in digital sustainability. The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission aims to be one of the most advanced 5G regulatory bodies globally.

The Kingdom has made significant progress in adopting sustainability concepts and leading international action through the Saudi Green and Middle East Green initiatives. These initiatives aim to preserve the environment and transition to renewable energy.
