Saudi Reports Over 1,300 Deaths During Hajj 2024 Season

In tragic reports, Saudi Arabia reported 1,301 deaths during the recent Hajj pilgrimage, according to Health Minister Fahd Al-Jalajel.

83 per cent of the casualties, were among unauthorized pilgrims

Many of the deceased walked long distances under direct sunlight without adequate shelter, due to their unauthorized stay. Among the deceased were also the elderly and people who suffered chronic illnesses.

Minister of Health Al-Jalajel highlighted the efforts made to raise awareness about heat stress and preventive measures

He expressed his condolences, saying, “May God forgive and have mercy on the deceased. Our heartfelt condolences go to their families. May God accept their deeds and grant them recompense for their suffering.” The authorities have completed all reports, notified families, and identified the deceased, although initial personal information and identification documents were missing.

Proper processes for identification, burial, and honoring the deceased were followed, and death certificates were issued
