Saudi Shuts Down Nearly 1,000 Restaurants Over Health And Safety Violations

In a powerful show of commitment to public health, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has demonstrated once again that food safety and consumer protection are top national priorities. Between April and May alone, the SFDA carried out an impressive 5,912 inspections across 4,307 establishments throughout the Kingdom.

This rigorous inspection campaign uncovered a wide range of violations, resulting in the closure of 996 establishments, including 136 that were operating without the necessary licenses or had serious product safety issues

These decisive actions highlight the Kingdom’s zero-tolerance policy for negligence when it comes to consumer well-being. The SFDA also took further corrective steps by halting production lines at 127 facilities and seizing 1,750 types of non-compliant products—a firm indication that the authority is not only inspecting but actively enforcing regulations with serious consequences for violators.

One notable case involved a food establishment where inspectors found raw materials of unknown origin, employees working without valid health certificates, and no proper system in place to prevent cross-contamination!

The discovery of such unsafe practices prompted the immediate closure of the business and the initiation of legal proceedings to ensure accountability. This initiative is part of the SFDA’s broader mission to safeguard public health, enforce high-quality standards, and ensure compliance across the food and drug sectors. Saudi Arabia continues to lead by example, showing that health and safety are not just guidelines—they’re non-negotiable.

As citizens and consumers, this commitment means greater confidence in the food we eat and the products you use.

It’s a reminder that when it comes to your health, Saudi Arabia is always watching out for you!
