Saudi To Mandate Electronic Payment For Domestic Workers

Say goodbye to cash-in-hand payments and hello to a smarter, more transparent way of paying domestic workers.

Starting January 1, 2026, Saudi Arabia will officially require all domestic worker salaries to be transferred through approved electronic channels

This marks a major milestone in protecting worker rights and modernizing employer-employee relationships!

Led by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the initiative uses the Musaned platform to ensure salaries are paid securely and on time via digital wallets and participating banks. The goal? Fewer disputes, more transparency, and a smoother experience for everyone involved.

This digital shift isn’t just about convenience, it’s about trust!

By moving payments online, domestic workers can easily verify their salaries, employers can keep clear records, and both parties benefit from a more reliable system

Whether it’s handling end-of-contract procedures, travel arrangements, or sending money back home, everything becomes faster, safer, and stress-free.

Under Musaned’s wage protection rules, employers must pay the salary agreed upon in the contract, typically at the end of each Hijri month, unless both sides agree otherwise in writing. And for workers who prefer cash? No problem. Salaries can be withdrawn through approved channels using a Mada card, keeping everything official and documented.

It’s also worth noting that workers covered by the Wage Protection System must receive their salaries through these official channels. Those outside the system may still be paid in cash or by check, with proper documentation, unless they request a bank transfer.

In short, this move is a win-win: more protection for workers, clearer processes for employers, and a big step forward in digitizing the domestic worker sector!
