Saudi Will Standardize USB Type-C Chargers Across The Country

Get ready to say goodbye to the standard USB chargers on January 1, 2025 because Saudi will officially roll out USB Type-C chargers across the country. The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation, in collaboration with the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, announced the news via Twitter.

This new decision aims to improve user experience through high-quality charging and data transfer

These new ports also promote sustainability through reducing electronic waste, as Saudi’s charger consumption is over 2.2 million units!

Officials also announced the two stages of transition to the new wire

The implementation of this transition will take place in two phases: The first is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2025, and will focus on devices like mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable video game devices, headphones, earphones, amplifiers, keyboards, computer mice, portable navigation systems, portable speakers, and wireless routers. The second phase will take place in 2026, and will roll out for laptops.
