Big News for Saudi Tech Lovers!

Get ready, because starting January 1, 2025, all your mobile devices in Saudi Arabia will be rocking the USB Type-C charging port! That’s right, no more hunting for different chargers or dealing with the hassle of incompatible tech.

The first phase covers everything from mobile phones, tablets, and digital cameras to headphones and portable speakers

This awesome change, brought to you by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), is all about making your life easier and saving you some cash. Say goodbye to the extra costs of chargers and hello to faster, high-quality charging and data transfer!

This move is also a win for the planet

By going for unified charging ports, Saudi’s cutting down on electronic waste, helping the environment, and sticking to those cool Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CST and SASO predict that this new standard will mean over 2.2 million fewer charging ports will be used in the Kingdom each year. That’s a whole lot of savings, around SR170 million annually to be exact! This aims to reduce nearly 15 tons of electronic waste every year. Talk about making a difference!

The second phase will kick off on April 1, 2026, and will include laptops.
