At around 7pm local time this Friday, two trains tragically collided in the Balasore District of Odisha State. One was a passenger train while the other was carrying goods, which struck each other at full speed.

More than 280 people have died and over 900 have suffered injuries

The crash is said to be the worst in over two decades! India’s railway minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the country would conduct an investigation into the cause, and also provide compensation to those affected by the crash. The deadliest accident in the history of the nation happened back in 1981. A passenger train had derailed off a bridge in Bihar, and its cars sunk into the Bagmati river killing around 750 passengers.

The Saudi Crown Prince and King gave the following statement after hearing about the horrific incident

“We have received the news about a collision of several trains in the state of Odisha, and the resulting deaths and injuries, and as we share with your Excellency the pain of this affliction, we send you and the families of the deceased and your friendly people our warmest condolences and sincere sympathy, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.”
