See Something Suspicious Online? It Could Earn You 50,000 SAR!

In a bold move to strengthen digital security, Saudi Arabia’s National Cybersecurity Authority is turning citizens into cyber watchdogs, and rewarding them for it.

The authority just announced cash incentives of up to SR50,000 (or 1% of the collected fine) for those who report verified cybercrimes

A special three-member committee will review each report to confirm violations, determine eligibility, and decide the exact reward amount. But not every online mishap qualifies,  the program targets serious offenses like unlicensed cybersecurity operations, failure to comply with national standards, or refusing to cooperate with official investigations. Even selling or importing cybersecurity tools without proper approval could get someone flagged.

To claim the reward, whistleblowers must play a decisive role in uncovering the violation, and the case must be officially proven, either through a final court ruling or the end of the appeal period.

There are also clear boundaries: employees of the authority (and their close relatives) aren’t eligible, and reports can’t come from someone whose job already involves monitoring such violations.

With this initiative, the Kingdom isn’t just tightening its cybersecurity net,  it’s inviting everyone to help keep the digital world safer, smarter, and cleaner.
