Abha International Airport has now embraced a new atmosphere, becoming Saudi Arabia’s first silent airport.
The airport authorities declared on Thursday their decision to transition the airport into a serene sanctuary. This means bidding farewell to the usual barrage of announcements regarding takeoffs, boarding calls, and last-minute reminders.
Silence has been introduced following several airports worldwide
In a bid to create a more tranquil atmosphere, the airport management introduced silence, shutting down the last-call loudspeakers. This decision was inspired by global best practices observed in numerous international airports worldwide, including the likes of Singapore Changi International Airport, Zurich International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Amsterdam International Airport, and London City International Airport.
Flight display screens will help guide passengers
According to the airport administration, passengers will now be guided through their journey via sleek flight display screens, eliminating the need for constant vocal announcements during boarding. To ensure everyone is in the loop, there will be an informative campaign explaining the concept of a silent airport through multilingual signage and electronic notices.
A voice call system will be introduced in the coming months
While the silent revolution takes root, the management plans to introduce a voice call system in the coming months, to be reserved solely for emergencies like flight cancellations or delays. With this initiative, the airport hopes to collaborate with relevant authorities to smoothen the transition and ensure passengers are well-prepared for their stress-free, noise-free travels through the serene corridors of Abha’s silent airport.
Silent airports, a trend gaining momentum globally, prioritize peace and quiet in terminal areas. Unlike traditional bustling airports, they limit announcements to essential matters, fostering a serene ambiance for travelers.
By minimizing noise pollution, silent airports allow passengers to focus on critical updates, ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience.
