Umniah Alzahery is a Saudi woman fought cancer to achieve her the biggest dreams of owning a taco stand

Born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Umniah was diagnosed with Leukemia at the peak of her corporate career. The head of HR at a Saudi investment firm, she described to The National how she got the news at a checkup thinking it was just a simple allergy.

The fighter was first admitted at King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Jeddah, where she was told she might just have a few weeks to live

Due to COVID-19, her immuno-deficient condition prompted the hospital to move her to Maryland, USA. That is when Umniah waited almost 6 months for a suitable bone marrow donor. Constantly putting up with struggle, she then soon returned back healthy to her hometown of Jeddah.

Umniah then started on her dreams of a taco stand, ‘Tacomelon Avenue’ which got people queuing up for hours

The stand became a hit amongst the people and gained instant fame, even though she had no professional experience as a chef. The stand made its first debut at Jeddah’s Formula 1 race in 2021, and then headed to the XP music event in Riyadh. Umniah is a key example to never give up on your dreams and chase them no matter what obstacles may come in the way.
