Tonight’s Sky In Saudi To Shine Bright With The First Supermoon Of 2024

Hera Shabbir

Get ready for a cosmic show tonight! The first supermoon of 2024 is set to dazzle the world, and Saudi Arabia will have front-row seats, according to the Jeddah Astronomy Society. This celestial event happens when the full moon gets cozy with Earth, making it look bigger and brighter than usual. Majed Abu Zahra, head of JAS, says this particular supermoon, known as a seasonal blue moon, is a rare treat that comes around only once every 2.5 years.

The supermoon will be visible to the naked eye among clear skies

The term “supermoon” refers to when the moon is within 90 percent of its closest approach to Earth. This time, the moon will be just 361,969 km away!

Look to the southeast after sunset, where the supermoon might greet you with an orange glow

As it climbs higher, it will shine with its classic silvery-white brilliance, keeping you company all night long until sunrise on Tuesday. Though the supermoon will be larger and brighter, Abu Zahra notes that the difference might be subtle, especially if clouds or city lights interfere. And remember, the moon’s size can be tricky to judge when it’s high in the sky. So, find a good spot, relax, and enjoy this lunar spectacle!
