11 Places That The Madinah Hop On Sightseeing Bus Takes You To Visit

You may have seen those classy red double-deckers hop on, hop off tour buses in Europe, of late we have them in Madinah as well. The tour is available in multiple languages, come with a tour guide on board and passengers are given headphones to help get to know more about each place better. Tickets are valid for 24 hours and allow you to explore the city on your own pace.

Here are the 11 places in Madinah that they take you on tour.

1. Masjid An Nabawi

The Prophet’s Mosque is the starting point of the tour, though you can also start your tour from other places if they are closer to the hotel you stay at.

2. Al Baqee Cemetry

The cemetery is located right next to the Prophet’s Mosque and is the place where many of the Prophet’s companions have been buried. Nearby is the Exhibition of The Holy Quran museum that houses rare manuscripts of the Quran.

3. Al Manakha

There are a few historic mosques in this area and it is also the place where the city’s eminent date souk is.

4. Al Salaam Gate

The gate is located inside the Prophet’s Mosque so the bus won’t take you there but it will take you as close to it as possible. This is the gate that is located very close to the grave of the Prophet (P.B.U.H).

5. Uhud Mountain

The Uhud Mountain is where a historic battle took place during the Prophet’s time. Several of the Prophet’s companions have buried in a graveyard next to the mountain. You will also find a lot of hawkers here selling Madinah’s prized herbs.

6. Al Noor Mall

One of the largest malls in the city of Madinah, the place is filled with plenty of good dining and shopping options.

7. Sultanah Street

If you didn’t shop till you drop at Al Noor Mall, you can continue your shopping spree on this street that is lined with shops selling bags, clothes and other touristy paraphernalia.

8. Al Qiblatain Mosque

It was at this mosque that when the companions of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) where praying it was revealed that the direction of the Qibla was changed from Jerusalem to Makkah. Hence, the name Qiblatain, which means two Qiblas.

9. Quba Mosque

The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) himself took part in the building of this mosque that makes it well over 1,400 years old. This mosque also appears in several hadiths (traditions) of the Prophet (P.B.U.H).

10. Al Hejaz Railway Station

Madinah was the last stop on the iconic Hejaz Railway. Today, the last station of the railway line houses a museum inside it that offers a deep insight into Madinah’s illustrious history.

11. Quba Street

A big portion of this street is strictly for pedestrians only and is lined with several shops that sell things mostly aimed at tourists including gold jewelry that is popular among visitors for some reason.
