Al Al Ula “Wonder of Arabia” exhibition officially inaugurated. The exhibition reflects the royal commissions planning for Al-Ula city development.

The Saudi Culture Minister, Prince Badr bin Farhan Al Saud said during the opening ceremony that the essence of Al Ula valley lies in its blending of heritage, arts, and nature.

He added, opening this exhibition along with the launch of the cultural manifesto of Al-Ula, acts as an exceptional invitation to the world to preserve global heritage, to balance between ambitious and responsibility, and to establish a new layer of their history for the future generations.

Al-Ula’s 7,000-year history

The exhibition introduces visitors to Al-Ula’s spectacular natural beauty and archeological treasures. The Expo’s organizers were keen to blend between the natural beauty and architectural cultural heritage of Al-Ula return to 7,000 –years back.

Al Ula’s valley is featured with its magnificent greenery, which is unexpected to find in the desert. Besides, the fascinating ocean scene with its sand, mountain hills of multiple colors and shapes, and natural rock sculptures created by the wind.

Nabataean Traditions

The Nabataeans arrived to Al-Ula and Hegra in the first century BC, bringing their culture and traditions with them. Among the Nabataen traditions was the practice of carving monumental tombs into rock facades.

Al-Ula area contains dozens of these tombs which have remained well preserved across thousands of years.

A video was designed specifically for the occassion, to help visitors to understand the Nabataean burial practices. It provides details about the items included in Nabataen coffins, and the way in which they were wrapped in fabric and leather.
