Who knew taking an #OutfitOfTheDay photo in the Kingdom’s city streets could help out in the best way possible?
The first edition of the coffee table book, Under The Abaya, was such a success in the Kingdom’s fashion domain, that a second edition is now well underway.
Under The Abaya is an initiative run by Mariam Mosalli, known for her fashion critiques in her blog Shoes and Drama and being the founder of Niche Arabia.
Fashionistas in Saudi Arabia can submit photos of their outfits via the Instagram page, helping to redefine the Western perception of Saudi women. The images are then handpicked to make it to the book which is then sold nationwide.
All proceeds from the book will go to the Niche Arabia’s Fashion Design Scholarship Fund, offering scholarships to aspiring fashion design students in financial need.
The name for the initiative pretty much speaks for itself and what it does. Underneath every abaya is a story and Mossalli wanted to change this perception of Saudi women.
She wanted to show that under the abaya is all ‘the latest trends in fashion just like any other highly fashion-conscious society.’
And that she did.
Submissions to the Under The Abaya Instagram page will be open until the 1st of November.
We all need to take part in this empowering movement, by women for women.
Photo submissions can be sent to: undertheabaya@nichearabia.com
