We’re pretty sure that if you’ve been up-to-date with recent news, especially ones hovering around Saudi, then you must’ve seen these jackets around.
The ‘June 24 Driving’ jackets by local label Hindamme has caused hysteria amongst fashionistas not just in Saudi; it seems but in other Khaleeji (GCC) countries too.
Well, there’s certainly more to know about the Hindamme brand and the soulful yet eclectic designer behind it.
The Saudi (born and raised) designer, Moe Khoja, is the brains behind the East meets West concept brand ‘Hindamme’.
He took up a business degree in Paris then simultaneously chased his passion for design when the idea for Hindamme blossomed in 2016.
I was moved by the decision to lift the ban on women driving because it seemed like something that would never happen. It is a symbolic gesture as the ban has always been held against us as Saudis.
Mohammed Khoja
In an interview with Ruh Magazine, Khoja mentioned that the name Hindamme is a Saudi term used to describe a person with great aesthetics. He changed the spelling of it to be more French, pronounced as ‘hin-daam’.
Every country has historic days when things happen that shift the course of the future– and this is one of those dates. That was the inspiration. I thought, how can I, as a designer, pay tribute to this without doing something cliché?
I call it a driving jacket to commemorate the date.
Mohammed Khoja
Watch out for more of Moe Khoja’s incredible designs in the near future. Big things are happening.
