Sports Abayas Are All The Hype Now And Saudi Women Are Rocking It Proudly
Sports abayas are all the hype right now and for excellent reasons. Last month, photos of Saudi women taking their running through Al-Balad’s streets in sports abayas went viral. As we all now know, going viral means being met with either praise or criticism, but if you’re fortunate- sometimes it can be both.
That was the case when Twitter peeps and religious commentators outside the Kingdom referred to the athletic abaya as a ‘rebellion’ from the Kingdom’s women. However, designer Eman Joharjy, known for designing sports abayas has mentioned the tremendous demand for the sportswear, in an interview with AFP.
The material and colours were designed to better complement the athletic Saudi
The sports abayas are more like a zippered jumpsuit, they emulate the design of the abaya but give you the flexibility of, say, tracksuits. No woman will ever have to worry about tripping on their abayas if they were jogging outdoors, reports Saudi Gazette.
