Ministry Of Labor Issues Decree To Nationalize Pharmaceutical Profession

HE Minister of Labor and Social Development Ahmed Al-Rajhi has issued a ministerial decree to gradually nationalize the pharmacy profession and its related specializations in all labor market activities and outlets.

This decision has been issued in cooporation with the Ministry of Health and will be implemented in two stages. The first stage targets the Saudization of 20 percent of the workforce by July 22, 2020, and the second stage aims to reach 30% Saudization by July 11, 2021.

This decision excludes pharmacists who are working as pharmaceutical product marketing specialists in pharmaceutical companies.

It also excludes drug agents, distributors, and factories which were subject to a November 2018 Saudisation decsion.

This decision applies to entities whose number of expatriate workers in the pharmacy profession exceeds five pharmacists or more
