Mohamed Salah has been named in Time’s magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people in the world.
The Liverpool forward used his interview to discuss women’s equality, particularly in his “culture and in the Middle East’.
“We need to change the way we treat women in our culture,” he told Time. That has to be, it’s not optional.”
Comedian and host of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver (also a lifelong Liverpool fan), wrote an article on Salah for the magazine.
“Mo Salah is a better human being than he is a football player,” wrote Oliver. “And he’s one of the best football players in the world.
Salah was included on the list alongside singers Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, US President Donald Trump, Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricketer Imran Khan, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and former US first lady Michelle Obama.
