Control your tears, WWE fans.
Roman Reigns, one of WWE’s biggest stars, announced on Sunday that he has to step away from the ring effective immediately due to his real-life battle with leukemia.
The 33-year-old re-introduced himself using his real name ‘Joe Anoa’i’ during the opening of an episode in Raw and revealed that his leukemia has returned.
Reigns mentioned originally being diagnosed with leukemia back in 2008, at the tender age of 22. During his announcement, Reigns apologised to the crowd in Providence, Rhode Island for not being able to fulfill the fighting champion his character wanted to be.
He also announced renouncing his title effective immediately.

“That’s all lies and it’s a lie because the reality is my name is Joe and I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years and unfortunately it’s back. Because the leukemia is back, I can’t fulfill my role. I can’t be that fighting champion and I’m going to have to relinquish the universal championship. I’m not going to lie, I’ll take every prayer you can send my way but I’m not looking for sympathy, I’m not looking for you to feel bad for me because I have faith.”

Last month, it was announced that Roman Reigns was scheduled to go against Brock Lesnar in a triple-threat match for the WWE Crown Jewel event taking place in Riyadh.
But due to this announcement, it seems unlikely that Reigns will partake in the match scheduled on November 2.
