Saudi Women Are Making History At One Of The Region’s Biggest Equestrian Festival

Avatar

For the first time ever, Saudi women are participating in one of the region’s most prestigious equestrian festivals.

Aramco’s four-star Diriyah Equestrian Festival just took place and saw Saudi female riders take place after the ban was uplifted last year

The competition hosted over 120 riders, 150 grooms, 50 officials, and 300 companions and trainers – including 13 female ridings, including Saudi nationals who are now allowed to take part in public races.

The festival is highly prestigious as it’s considered a qualifying step for riders hoping to be recruited for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games – serious stuff!

One of those taking part in the event is Saudi equestrian Dalma Malhas.

Malhas is a medalist who has previously competed outside the kingdom and is considered one of the country’s top equestrians.
