When the weekend comes we Jeddahwis are often seen asking our colleagues or friends about new places to visit as we claim to have seen pretty much all of what Jeddah has to offer.

But there is one place just outside of Jeddah that most of us have actually not seen despite it being of great historic value. The place that we’re talking about is the Usfan Fort.

The fort was built by the Ottomans and served as a military outpost for the army

It sits right on the Makkah-Madinah Highway some 40 kilometres from Jeddah.

The fort was made using Basalt rocks that are found in abundance in the region

The area surrounding the fort has recently been renovated to make it more “touristy”

It looks pretty good at night as well
