Some historic Saudi villages and towns have developed and become cities but some have remained in the past and serve as amazing reminders of Saudi Arabia’s glorious history.  Here are 5 of the most picturesque ones. 

Rijal Alma

Nestled in the Sarawat Mountains, Rijal Alma is one of the best preserved historic towns. It takes about an hour to roam it on foot and the entry fee charged is a nominal SAR 10. The houses in the town are made entirely of stone and many houses, in fact, are multi-storied.

Dhee Ayn

It is just like many of the other historic villages that dot the Al Baha region, except for the fact that Dhee Ayn, unlike the others, is built on top of a white colored rocky outcrop. From a far, it looks like it is built on top of marble.

Ushaiqer

The specialty about this village located near Riyadh is that it has to a large extent been restored by its inhabitants. They have restored it so well that it has become a tourist spot. Ushaiger is, in fact, one of the oldest towns in the Najd region.

Al- Ghat

Located about 230 northwest of Riyadh, this quaint little town is a place to get lost in history. By the look of it, Al-Ghat resembles the typical oasis towns as described in the Arabian Nights.

Habalah

The village of Habalah sits right at the edge of a cliff face. It remained hidden for centuries from people and rumors go about that such a precarious location was chosen by the original inhabitants so as to evade the invading Ottoman armies. The only way to reach in the past was by means of a rope or Habal in Arabic hence the name Habalah.
