Despite the huge number of pilgrims that Makkah sees on a daily basis up until now it didn’t have its own airport. All visitors to Makkah had to arrive either at the airports in Jeddah or Madinah and then make their way by bus or train to Makkah. But that’s all set to change soon.
So basically Makkah will be getting a major extension called the Faisaliah City. This extension will span from the borders of the haram and extend up till the Red Sea coast near Shoaiba. So it is in this major extension that a new airport will be coming up.
According to the Saudi Gazette, the land has been allotted for this new airport in Faisaliah City. This was announced by the Emir of Makkah Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.

Faisaliah City is expected to provide one million jobs and will house all governmental offices of Makkah in it. Plus, it will have its own seaport as well.
The most iconic features of Faisaliah City will be its waterfront and state-of-the-art Islamic centre.
