7 Photos Of The Al Turaif District Showing Just How It Made Its Way To UNESCO’s List

Avatar

It’s all over the news after The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman held a grand re-launching event for the historical district of Al-Turaif.

The Al-Turaif historic District was the latest addition to Saudi’s feat of UNESCO World Heritage Sites when it was added to the list back in 2010.

But what makes Al-Turaif so vital to the Kingdom that it’s even undergoing a MAJOR renovation project?

Let these pictures speak for themselves.

Al- Turaif is located in the north-western outskirts of Riyadh

It is one of the world’s oldest (and breathtaking) heritage sites

Settlement of this area dates all the way back to the 15th century

It is the 5th site to be recognised by UNESCO and added to its list of world heritage sites

Al-Turaif was also the original home of the ruling Al-Saud family from 1744 to 1818

There’s even a photo of a younger King Salman visiting the area

Be sure to check it out after the restorations are complete

Especially if you live in Riyadh.
