A Saudi Girl Filmed An Entire Grocery Day In Saudi Using Zero Plastic And It’ll Inspire You To Do The Same

A Saudi vlogger, who goes by the name Sukkari Life, uploaded a video two months ago showing a full-day grocery shopping in the Kingdom-with zero use of plastic bags whatsoever.

A study done in 2016 revealed that plastic waste generated in Saudi Arabia (yearly) equates to around the weight of two million cars. If that’s not a thought-provoking example, then I don’t know what could be.

So you see, the need to reduce our use of plastic is quite a big deal. Although many of us have gotten used to discarding this as so, and going about our lives as we would. Perhaps watching this lovely lady’s videos will inspire you to take charge and contribute more to the preservation of our planet.

In the video, the Riyadh-based vlogger, walked us through what shopping with minimal to zero waste would look like in this region.

She used mason jars, recycled cloth bags instead of the usual excess use of plastic

Individuals in Saudi, according to AlBawaba.com, consume an average of 40 kilograms of plastic bags each year, this is twenty times more than the global average. The Kingdom’s per capita plastic bag use is also the highest in the region.

So what do we do?

Much like Sukkari Life, we can start gradual and eventually find more ways to live how humans used to. Before the creation of ‘the plastic bag’.

Reusable, recycled bags are everywhere and they can be used up to as many times as you want (depending on your care for it.) Simply making this change alone can do so much to reduce your carbon footprint.

Another thing you could do is ditch the takeaway plastic cups whenever you get your morning coffee to-go. Instead, you could bring your own reusable coffee cups.

Other things you can opt to do:

  • Stop buying bottled water
  • Get a couple of mason jars to store the nuts you purchase from out (refillable)
  • Say no to straws
  • Bring your own thermos to coffee shops (as previously mentioned)
  • Tiffin boxes instead of sandwich bags
