A music video by Saudi singer Tariq Al Harbi was released “Erheb”, which has been trending on YouTube for over a week now. Although the song is seemingly catchy and a lot of people seem to enjoy it, others see otherwise. An article by Arab News went into the societal paradigm of the song’s seeming representation of the ‘Darbawi’ people.
The song is currently number 2 on YouTube’s trending list.
In the song, Al- Harbi showcases the ‘typical’ traits or hobbies that most Darbawis partake in, like desert camping, pickup truck drifting or even having a ‘Mirinda’ soda. According to Arab News, many commentators feel that the video mocks the culture and ‘might send the wrong message.’
Some really enjoyed the song and didn’t think too much into it…
“LOL, amazing dishdash colors!”
“Couldn’t understand anything but I love it!”
“Mashallah, This video has been trending for over a week.”
“It’s not your fault, it’s the people that followed you and made you famous.”
“Someone tell him that this is not how Darbawi people are”
“It’s not worth the views it got”
