A team from National Geographic magazine went to Saudi Arabia 52 years ago to document a meteor that hit the Kingdom some four centuries ago. Photos of that day have resurfaced online and it’s pretty interesting to see how things have changed.

The National Geographic team visited ‘Wobar’

The team went to check out the meteorite in the Empty Quarter of the desert, reports Al Arabiya. The location it was situated in was since called ‘Wobar’, high-quality photos of the finds taken by American photographer Thomas J. Abercrombie show a good deal of what it might have felt like being there.

The meteorite, weighing 3.5-ton, was first discovered by the British explorer St. John Philby in 1932. It has been suggested that the Wobar meteor struck this part of the world nearly 400 years ago.
