A Saudi student has just been selected to be part of the global Rhodes Scholar class for the very first time.
It always amazes us when Saudis or even peeps from the region achieve academic success because it just means more and more progression and a chance to inspire many others in the community.
The 23-year-old Majd Abdulghani has been chosen to be part of the 100 chosen Rhodes Scholars who will go to Oxford next October, reports Saudi Gazette. She is a geneticist who is working in the Cheung Lab at the University of Michigan, she has a podcast which has won two awards and even partakes in karate and show-jumping competitions.
Majd told SG that she believes her identity as a Muslim and a Saudi woman is an integral part of pushing scientific and stereotypical boundaries.
And we hear you, right on that one Majd!
People with exceptional records or relatively higher academic grades from around the world are carefully selected for the Rhodes scholarship to further develop their knowledge or skill.
The criteria that the Rhodes scholarship usually looks for when it comes to deciding is going for someone driven and with leadership skills and a desire to shape the world’s future with what they can do.
A full-funding is given to these students for about 2-3 years (depending on their chosen course) to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
I am doubly honored!! Thank you! https://t.co/HgyngzdcTW
