Saudi Arabia has successfully managed to aid in the release of French hostage Alain Goma, who was held by the Houthi militias for almost four months, according to the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday.

Sources report that on Tuesday a royal directive was implemented based on a request by France’ side in helping release French sailor Goma, who was kidnapped by the Houthis since July 8 in the Hodeidah Province.

The back story

The Frenchman was held captive by Yemen’s Houthi militias after his boat ran into trouble near the Hodeidah port. The 54-year-old Goma has dropped an anchor in Hodeida after running out of water en route to India.

He was held by the militias by nearly four months.

The rescue mission by Saudi Arabia and Oman was then carried out

The French side requested to facilitate the release of Goma through coordination made with joint forces to gain a permit for a C130 aircraft that belongs to the French Army.

The source confirmed that on Tuesday evening, the permission for the aircraft formerly mentioned was issued and Goma was flown out of Sana’a to Muscat, Oman.

French President Emmanual Macron thanked the Saudi and Oman authorities for helping with his release.

Phew.
