In recent news, a photo of four covered women sitting on the floor at the mosque while playing a board game in Makkah has gone completely viral on social media. With it, came heaps of comments from angry netizens. On Monday, Saudi daily’s Okaz reported that the four women had been playing around 11pm on Friday.
According to Okaz, the women were playing the board game Sequence at the western square near King Abdulaziz Gate. Until the operation room was notified and the women’s section at the General Presidency dealt with the situation. The four women were asked nicely to respect the piety of the mosque and end the game. They abided and then left.
According to Gulf News, most online users who came across the photo condemned their actions and said they should respect the ‘spiritual significance of the mosque.’ Other users compared it to the use of phones by pilgrims. “Some people, waiting for prayers or for friends, have a tendency to take out their cell phones and use applications for several purposes,” he posted.
