A Saudi researcher created a robot that not only communicates in Arabic but can understand the local dialect. Reports say the robot could be first in the world to communicate in Arabic.
Dr. Faisal Alsarheed, an assistant professor in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the Saudi Electonic University developed Mosalem within two years after the university had given him the funding for it.
The bot has been named Mosalem, the Arabic word for ‘peaceful’. According to Saudi Gazette, its developer Dr. Alsarheed chose the name to counteract the common perception that robots are threatening and take over humans’ jobs.

A system called deep learning technology will gradually teach Mosalem the robot to engage in 100,000 conversations without relying on translation.
Dr. Alsarheed is more concerned with the robot’s ability to actually understand local dialect to find proper responses instead of classical Arabic.

Dr. Alsarheed already plans to work on the bot’s second edition, further developing its body parts and movement abilities.
We definitely can’t wait to see what’s next in the Kingdom in terms of high-technology developments as such!
