A Team Of Two Saudis Won SAR 1 Million After Winning The Baloot Championship Title

The lucky winning duo Dhaya Alsubaei and Mesfer al-Arjani bagged SAR 1 million as a result of winning the Kingdom’s second Baloot championship title.

Baloot has been a popular game and past time for most Saudi men for generations but who knew it could rake in the big dough?

The Saudi card game was believed to have been brought to Hijaz by Indian immigrants, according to Arab News.

The General Sports Authority organised the competition

The Baloot championships took place at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Olympic Stadium in Riyadh.

It was a 12-day tournament 2,400+ participants

All 2,400 participants were reportedly selected from a random lottery system but in actuality more than 140,000 participants had registered.

That goes to show just how popular the game is in the Kingdom.

Four cash prizes were given to different winning teams

The first prize, given to Alsubaei and Al-Arjani, was worth SAR 1 million, the second for SAR 500,000 third for SAR 300,000 and the fourth for SAR 200,000.
