Footages of an alleged fashion show and performances that took place at a hospital on May 12 caused heavy outrage on social media. In the video, hospital staff (in their uniforms) were seen taking part in the performances by doing catwalks and dances. AJL news reported the incident, along with the video until the hospital’s official spokesman explained the truth behind it.

The event took place at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdel Aziz Hospital in Riyadh

AJL added that it happened during International Nurses Day, an event marked yearly on May 12. However, an official spokesman for the hospital, Falal Al Shemmari, stated that the event was for International Nurses Day took place on that Thursday (May 12) but a private function was held the next day outside the hotel’s premises. Al Shemmari also concluded that the viral video was taken at the said private event and not at the hospital.

Despite the explanation, however; Saudi Twitter still had divided opinion on the matter

Some were angry, expressing their outrage over the events while others saw nothing wrong with the private function taking place.

“My God, dancing and parties have reached hospitals!!”

“Not in the land of the Two Holy Mosques”

Other residents needed more information before assessing the situation

“There’s nothing that proves this happened in the Kingdom.”

And some didn’t see the need to exagerate the story

“This was a party held for Filipino employees and it’s private… I think the era when we used to interfere in other people’s cultures and even impose our rules on their personal lives is over.”

Some residents were in doubt…

“It might be a training to make other patients happy. Who knows?

“This news isn’t beneficial to us. And we’re on a good month, with the blessings of God.”
