A Woman Is Being Called Saudi Superwoman For Beating Harassers On The Streets Of Riyadh

A video has surfaced online showing a young woman beating harassers out of her way in Riyadh’s Alya street. According to Akhbaar 24, the incident took place in a public park in Saudi’s capital city, where people saw a bunch of men gathered around the lady.

The video has now gone viral with more than 140,000 views on Twitter

The video shows a group of boys and men attempting to scare the girl by whistling and recording, while they cursed her out. She then charged at them, in retaliation, with a wooden stick.

People are reacting to it on social media…

The divided opinion of the Kingdom is once again evident through a series of Twitter response’ from the video. With some people not surprised at all by what had occurred, blaming the woman for the way she was covered that might have provoked the young men and others were just baffled that this kind of harassment still takes place.

“No one would harass a modest, respectable woman. A woman who’s too out there and who dresses like this must handle what she gets. Some women dress provocatively and don’t want anyone to harass them. Have some shame and be modest if you don’t want that.”

But of course, the Saudi women (and a good number of men) defended the girl

Many were proud of her actions and said there was nothing wrong with her defending herself

“If there’s no law to protect women from molestation, they should take matters into their own hands.”

Saudi is drafting a law that will soon criminalise sexual harassment

In September of last year, Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Salman ordered the Kingdom’s Ministry of Interior to draft a law that will criminalise anyone who sexually harasses another, and will penalties will be given to perpetrators.
