A Saudi woman has recently lost a legal battle to marry the man she has chosen after the court referred to him as “religiously unfit”, reports The Khaleej Times.
The daily Okaz reported the peculiar news on Tuesday, adding that the woman’s family objected to the woman’s permission-seeking, saying the man she chose was not ‘religiously compatible’ with her.
The man’s playing of the popular instrument ‘oud’ was the main reason for their denial.
Following their decision, the 38-year-old bank manager from Qassim then took her case to the courts to which the final verdict came: that she could not go through with the marriage.
“Because the suitor plays a musical instrument he is unsuitable for the woman from a religious point of view,” as stated by the court, according to Okaz.
The woman plans to involve the country’s highest authorities and stated her determination in marrying her suitor, describing him as “very pious and with a good reputation.”
