A little boy from Saudi, Ahmed Al-Shammari, donated a bone marrow to his younger brother at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. Al-Shammari was offered the Medal of Courage by the clinic, for his bravery and certainty in proceeding with the operation.

His little brother, Ziyad, suffers from an acute form of leukemia

Despite having had chemotherapy and other treatments in Saudi Arabia, they all resulted in no success. Hence, Ziyad was immediately transferred to the United States’ Mayo Clinic, where he needed a bone marrow transplant to be done.

After all the Al- Shammari family members were tested, according to Al Arabiya, only Ahmed (the older brother) was the perfect match for the donation. Ahmed was not hesitant for even a moment to donate his bone marrow to Ziyad, despite parents being uncertain about it.

The operation took place on Thursday and when he was asked if he wanted anything before being anesthetised, his response was:

“If my brother needs anything else while I’m under anesthesia, please take it and do not return it to me.”

That is the sweetest thing we’ve heard thus far.. reportedly, even medical practitioners at the clinic had to leave the room as they got emotional and touched by Ahmed’s genuine words.

The operation was a success and Ahmed remains in good health, while the family needs to remain in USA for 3 more months

Just to keep out for Ziyad’s health and ensure everything is alright as the treatment plan needs 100 days to ‘reap.
