SnapInc, owner of the Snapchat app has blocked the Qatari- owned Al Jazeera’s content to pop up in Saudi Arabia, according to the BBC. It was done to comply with the local laws of the Kingdom, that does not allow Al Jazeera’s media to be shown in any of the Gulf countries that has cut ties with Qatar.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a large market in social media, with approximately 10 million active mobile social accounts by 2016. This means, US or Western-based companies should still have to comply with a country’s local laws, as did SnapInc, who says they make an effort to comply with the laws of each country they’re operating in.
