A forged letter was circulated over the weekend that claimed that serving alcoholic beverages at cafes and restaurants was now permitted in Saudi Arabia

The letter has been rebuked as completely fabricated by the authorities

The fabricated statement added that the General Entertainment Authority will issue permits to cafés and restaurants to host live musical performances and standup comedy events.

According to Sabq, sourced have confirmed that the letter is blatantly false.

The General Entertainment Authority (GEA) has launched an ambitious programme that aims to transform Saudi Arabia into one of the top 10 international entertainment destinations.

This objective will be reached through many long-term contracts signed between the GEA and local as well as international partners.

However, GEA’s chairman has insisted that the events would be presented in a way that respects local values

“Our traditions and culture will be respected. Our religion is clear and we will adhere to our Islamic values,” he said.
