A hackathon is usually a themed event for techie entrepreneurs, innovators, developers and designers to create ideas for the specified theme.
In the past, hackathons have created projects for specific problems, such as food sustainability or returning citizens.
The Haj Hackathon aims to cultivate ideas from the innovations of its participants’ projects and help enrich the Haj experience for pilgrims.
According to Saudi Gazette, the hackathon is expected to receive 3,000 developers from the MENA region. Prizes valued at SAR 2,000,000 will be awarded to the top three participants of whose ideas can be turned into businesses. And an additional SAR 150,000 will be awarded as an ‘excellence’ prize.
