Prominent UAE business tycoon Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor has called for a boycott on major US companies who have opted out of this year’s Future Investment Initiative (FII) summit.
In several tweets and an op-ed article on Arab News, the mogul encouraged the rest of the GCC, Egypt and Jordan to stand in support for the Kingdom by boycotting companies like Virgin and Uber to show that the region cannot be bullied.
A number of international companies and guest speakers have backed out of attending the FII due to reports of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s disappearance since October 2 to which, Saudi officials have denied, and cooperated with all investigative requests. The journalist was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
International leaders have been discussing the case, and questioning Saudi Arabia’s role in man’s disappearance, however the Ministry has affirmed it will not tolerate any accusations or political pressures.
The Kingdom has also sent out a team to help Turkish investigators find out what happened to Khashoggi.
Now is time for #GCC & allies of #SaudiArabia to prove their loyalty by boycotting @Virgin @Uber & all the companies pulling out of #KSA before the truth about #Khashoggi’s disappearance is revealed. Together we can prove our unity & that we cannot be bullied. #KhalafAlHabtoor pic.twitter.com/9HuFDe0sVQ

“The Saudis’ Gulf Cooperation Council allies, as well as Egypt and Jordan, must stand shoulder to shoulder with Riyadh to show those companies they are not welcome to operate within our borders. They should be boycotted. Together we must prove we will not be bullied or else, mark my words, once they have finished kicking the Kingdom, we will be next in line. Now is the time to prove our loyalty and transparency toward each other.”
…to which, an Arabic version was also made.
#خلف_الحبتور pic.twitter.com/cv1in4ilCG

1 of 3. For days, local & international media‘s favourite topic is the disappearance of #JamalKhashoggi in #Turkey. Writers, commentators & analysts are rushing to voice their opinion about what happened. Why is everyone competing to point blame at #SaudiArabia? #KhalafAlHabtoor

2 of 3. Media & the world need to wait for the truth to be revealed in the disappearance of #JamalKhashoggi before making assumptions.
I urge @realDonaldTrump & his administration to hold before inviting Khashoggi’s alleged fiancée to #WhiteHouse.#KhalafAlHabtoor #KSA #Turkey— KhalafAhmadAlHabtoor (@KhalafAlHabtoor) October 12, 2018
3 of 3. The question of the hour: Where is #JamalKhashoggi @JKhashoggi? We pray that he be found alive and well.
We need to be rational and allow investigators to do their job before jumping to conclusions.#KhalafAlHabtoor #KSA #Turkey @realDonaldTrump— KhalafAhmadAlHabtoor (@KhalafAlHabtoor) October 12, 2018
