The General Sports Authority in Saudi has shut down a ladies-only fitness centre in Riyadh over a video advertisement that featured a woman in tight workout clothing, reported Khaleej Times. GSA’s chief, Turki al-Alsheikh, asked for the centre’s license to be withdrawn, following the video’s content which he deemed “could corrupt public morals.”

Al Sheikh added “We are not going to tolerate this,” in his thread of tweets regarding the topic. He then told authorities to investigate and take legal action to those in charge of making the video. The footage in question immediately circulated social media showing a lady kicking a punching bag at the gym without a hijab.
A media adviser to the royal court, Saud Al Qahtani, applauded the Sport Authority’s actions, saying that Saudi can stay in ‘moderation without moral breakdown.’
