An Updated Divorce Law Is Now In Place Giving Saudi Women More Rights After Ending A Marriage

The ‘House of Obedience’ law that forces wives to return to their husband’s home following a divorce has officially been cancelled by the Ministry of Justice in Saudi, according to Okaz. 

Previously, women who were forced by husbands to return home. However, the ministry is now complying with article 75 of the executive regulations that state “verdicts delivered regarding forcing the woman to the ‘house of obedience’ are null and void.” 

Now, a woman who doesn’t want to go back to her husband’s home can be divorced or lawfully separated from him.
