The Hajj is just over a month away and the expected inflow of millions of pilgrims is scheduled to begin by next week. In order to cope with the huge numbers, the authorities have decided to restrict entry to Makkah to only pilgrims and those who either work or live in the Holy City.

The Makkah Governorate announced it on their official Twitter account.

The tweet mentions that the ban will be effective from the 25th of Shawwal till the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. This corresponds to the evening of the 28th of June till the 12th of August in the Gregorian calendar.

The Traffic Police has also tweeted about the documents that will give you access to the city.

The documents that will give you access during this period of restricted entry include residence permits that were issued in Makkah, Hajj permits or special permits that are issued to those individuals that have work related to the Hajj.
