Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Labor and Social Development has issued an order to ban smoking in all workplaces and offices in the country.
A legislation was passed in 2015 that aimed to “combat smoking by taking all necessary measures at the levels of State, community and individuals” and specifically prohibited in both public and private workplaces but was never fully implemented or monitored.
Any company that continues to allow smoking in its premises will be held accountable with fines of up to SAR 5,000.
The decision includes prohibitions on all forms of tobacco use including shisha.
